9A, CROATIA. Charlie, NF4A, informs OPDX that Paul/N4PN, Tom/N4XP and he will be in Croatia for the CQWW CW DX Contest in late November. They plan to arrive in Zagreb on November 18th. Before the contest look for them daily from the 9A1A club station in Jarun, near Zagreb. They will be using their own callsigns: 9A5PC (NF4A), 9A4PN (N4PN) and 9A/N4XP (N4XP). QSL via their home callsigns. The guys will be operating the CQWW CW DX Contest with the 9A1A group and will return to the U.S. on November 25th.

AH2, GUAM. Operators Aki/JI3ERV/NH2C, Toshi/JR7OMD/WI3O, Kou/JH7QXJ and Osamu/JR8VSE/NH2N will be active as AH2R in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Mult-Op/Single-TX entry. The team has set a contest target as the Oceanic leader in Multi-Single category and in the World's Top 5. Also, they are trying to build an Oceanic record in the Muliti-Single category. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the band plan, their operation on 40 meters is limited between 7075 and 7100. Listen carefully!! They are also planning participation of CQWW CW Contest next month. CE3/CE4/CE8/XQ1/3G1/3G5, CHILE. Ferdi, XQ5SM, Chairman of the Southern Cross DX Group, informs OPDX that the following Chilean stations will be active in the CQWW SSB Contest 2002:

EA8 CANARY ISLANDS (IPA Contest/Att. Award Hunters). Ben, OZ5IPA, will be active as EA8/OZ5IPA again from October 29th through November 4th. His activity will be on CW/SSB and also in the International Police Associations Contest (November 2-3rd). FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Bob, WA4OAB, will be operating as FO/WA4OAB from the islands of Tahiti Iti on November 9th and 10th, and Moorea Island on November 12th and 13th. This is a vacation with the XYL and with a bunch of non-Ham friends, so he will try his best to stick to the schedule below:

Activity will depend on conditions as to which band, and he will try to stay awake for 20 meters at 0900z. QSL via the address on QRZ.com.

GI5, NORTHERN IRELAND. Operator M0SDX will be active as GI5W in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Single-Op/All Band entry. QSL via UT5SI: P.O. Box 926, Gorlovka-29, 84629 Ukraine.

J3, GRENADA (6 meters). Look for Mike/K6MYC and Jimmy/W6JKV to operate from here from October 31st through November 10th. They will have a very good location for Europe and USA, and all direction from 40 degrees around to 330 degrees. They should also have good antenna(s) and power. They will probably only operate on 6 meters and hope to work everyone.

K2, GUAM. Look for Tack/KA8A(7M4KRX), Nori/AA9WZ(JA1OZK) and Hide/KC9AJS (7N4FTL) to be active from Guam Island for the CQWW DX CW Contest. They will use the callsign "K2G" during their activity from November 22-26th. Outside of the contest, K2G will be on the air for SSB and the WARC bands as well. R5, EUROPEAN RUSSIA. Operators RW3QC, UA3QDX, RN3QO, RN3QY, RA3ATX and RW3QNZ will be active as R5CCC in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Multi/Multi entry. This special callsign has been used by the RCC group for the last 5 years. QSL via RW3RN.

RO4, EUROPEAN RUSSIA. Operators RA4LW, RN4LP, RU4HP, UA4LCH and UA4LL will be active as RO4M in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL via RN4LP.

RT9, ASIATIC RUSSIA. Operators RU9WX, RX9WR, RW9WW, RW9WY, RV9WA and RA9WR will be active as RT9W in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL is OK via Bureau or direct.

RW2, KALININGRAD. Members of the UA2 Contest Club will be active as RW2F in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Multi/?? entry. QSL via DK4VW.

SPECIAL EVENT. Dennis, ZS4BS, informs OPDX and its reader of the following: "TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN -- Umbraphiles will be able to view a total eclipse of the Sun from the Northern and North Eastern regions of Limpopo Province, South Africa, on 4th December, 2002. The eclipse commences at approximately 0500z and ends two and a half hours later depending on one's location. A group of Amateur Radio Operators from ZS5 and ZS6 will operate a Special Event Station, ZS6SOL, to cover the occurrence. They will be on the air from 30th November through to 7th December whilst mobile and will give a commentary from the South bank of the Limpopo River, leading up to, and again, shortly after the eclipse itself. You are invited to share their experience with them on 40, 20 and 15 meters (probably around 7075, 14200 and 21155 kHz) depending on band conditions. Please QSL via the Bureau to Willie, ZS5WI, or direct to: PO Box 1064, Eshowe, 3815 enclosing a stamped, self addressed envelope with your card."

SY8, GREECE. Spiros, SV8CS, informs OPDX that a group will be active during the CQWW SSB Contest with the special callsign SY8A. The QTH is the island of Zante in Western Greece (IOTA EU-052). Their operation will be in the Multi-Single category. Rigs will be: ICOM IC 781 + YAESU FT990 + ICOM IC 756. Antennas are: 10m, 15m, 20m 4 element mono-banders; 40m 3 element + Mosley PRO 67c all bands 7 element; 80m Inverted "V" at 30m and a 160m full size vertical. RX antennas are: 5 beverages + AP8A vertical multiband.

VK1, AUSTRALIA. Operators VK1DO, VK1JDX, VK1ZPL, VK1MJ, VK1RG and possibly others will be active as VK1JDX in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) as a Multi/2 entry. This will be a portable operation within Australia - not a full DXpedition. QSL via the VK1 Bureau or direct.

XT2, BURKINA FASO. Dani, EA4ATI, is now in Hounde. He received the license XT2ATI on October 24th and has been active on 20 and 10 meters. Watch 14208 and 28495 kHz, after 2130z or 1400z. He is using dipole antennas, but this weekend he will try to install a minibeam tribander. QSL via EA4YK.

XT2, BURKINA FASO. Operators G0MTN, G3PJT, G3SXW, G4BWP, G4PIQ, GM3YTS, K4UEE, K5VT, KC7V and KY7M will be active as XT2DX from Ouagadougou in the CQWW CW Contest (November 23-24th) as a Multi-Multi category with seven stations. QSL via G3SXW. There will be some activity before the contest, November 20-22nd.

YJ, VANUATU. Nada, YJ8MN, can sometimes be found on 20/15/10 meters CW anywhere between 2200 and 0460Z. He has been working there for about 2 years. The correct QSL route from Nada is via JH3IIU via Japan's Bureau. DO NOT SEND DIRECT. He will return to Japan in March or May, and at that time he will answer the QSLs. ZL7, CHATHAM ISLAND (Interesting Contact Of The Week). Bob, ZL3TY, reported this week that on Thursday, October 24th, the first ever 2m EME QSO to ZL7 was made with W5UN at 1010z followed by a QSO with KB8RQ at 1034z. Equipment used at ZL7C was a single 12 element yagi and tx power 150 watts, the rig was a Yaesu FT100. The U.S. stations both have large multi-yagi arrays.

Use the VOICE or FAX answering machine at 440-237-8208 which shares the
same phone line as BARF-80 BBS using a data/fax/phone switch. To access:
1) Dial Number. 2) Wait for first ring (the second ring should be a false
ring from the fax/data switch box) and then dial four quick ones ("1111").
(NOTE: Some FAX machines that send single "BEEPS" every second will not
have to do this step.) 3) The phone will pick up and after the "BEEP"
leave your voice message or FAX.
