*** EDITOR'S SPECIAL NOTE: Let me first say, it is great to have electrial power back again. Thanks to last week's storms, we had no power between 4:00 PM Friday to 8:30 PM Monday. It made for an interesting weekend (with no computer or television). Anyway, due to the large amount of late CQ WPX CW Contest announcements, I decided to release the bulletin early. I also wanted to free up more time during the Memorial Day weekend. Have a safe and fun holiday! 73 de Tedd KB8NW

5W, SAMOA (Update). Ted, K8AQM, reports that his upcoming trip to 5W will take place between July 7-21st. He will operate as 5W0TR from the Samoan Village Resort on 160-10 meters CW/SSB/RTTY and PSK. ALBANIA NEWS. Tim Totten, N4GN, sent out the following press release from the "Project Goodwill Albania" team:
"A HEARTY THANK YOU FOR THOSE WHO RESPONDED TO A CALL FROM ALBANIA AT DAYTON 2004
It was delighting to Geni, ZA1B, and other Project Goodwill Albania members to hear the sincere compliments for a project well executed from the visiting DXers in Dayton. Many complimented the dual-track idea of making amateur radio's entry to University level training and including a DX outing in the same package.
Many individual donors wanted to do their share in getting the students on the air. To that end, equipment support was received from AA4XR, N3BNA, K3LP, K7JA, VE1JF, W3BTX, W4MYA, W6EUF, W6OSP, W6UM and W9JUV in addition to those already reported earlier.
The highlight obviously was when Len Geraldi, K6ANP, President of the Northern California DX Foundation, announced at the DX Dinner that NCDXF and Vertex Standard (Yaesu) will combine forces to donate ten complete FT840 stations to the University of Tirana to boost the successful completion of the project. DXers around the world are reminded that NCDXF relies on the support of individuals like you in order to fund such DX projects.
As Bob Ferrero, W6RJ, stepped forward on behalf of Ham Radio Outlet with the same number of antennas and Bob Heil, K9EID, added the good Heil sound to the package, the event was ending happily, once again showing the power of the DX community and related industry for a good cause.
The First Albania DX Convention, scheduled for 19-20 June in the capital city Tirana, is the place to be to enjoy the camaraderie of the new ZA amateurs as well as many figures from the DX community who helped make the donated equipment work--G3LQP, G3TXF, I8NHJ, K2WR, W6UM, OH2BH, OH2PM, T93Y and others. Your participation will be welcomed! U.S. DXers may contact Rich, K2WR, at k2wr@njdxa.org for advice how to travel there easily. In case of your further equipment donation, these people will be happy to take them along and do the presentation on your behalf.
See a high-res photo at: http://www.n4gn.com/za/ Photo caption: Happy gathering at the Project Goodwill Albania 2003 QSL Service Desk at the Vertex Standard (Yaesu) booth in Dayton. Standing from left: OH2PM, W6OSP, K6AW, G3LQP, DL6LAU, OH2BH, K7JA and N4GN. Seated: Geni, ZA1B and Teemu, SM0WKA. Please see http://www.za1a.com for further information."
ARLHS PRESS RELEASE: Jim Weidner, K2JXW, Founder and President of the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society, provides the following information: "Guidelines for the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society August 2004 National Lighthouse-Lightship Weekend (NLLW) QSO Contest are available at: http://arlhs.com/NLLW-2004-guidelines.html. This annual event, along with our International event later in August, draws thousands of participants from all over the world. Last year we had over 40 countries participate, and over 400 lighthouses activated." Further information is available from K2JXW at mailto:weidner@waterw.com
C6, BAHAMAS. Duncan, EA5ON, is once again active from Freeport. He has been active since May 26th and will continue to be active until May 30th as GM7CXM/C6A. Although this is primarily a business trip, Duncan informs OPDX that he will be taking his IC-706 and portable antenna. This year the licence is already issued, the antenna has been thoroughly tried and tested, and it is hoped that more contacts will be made than last year. Operation will be 80-10 meters SSB. In case the hotel accomodation proves to be radio unfriendly, batteries will be taken along to enable portable use on the beach. Freeport is on Grand Bahama Island, IOTA NA-080. QSL to EA5ON, direct or by the bureau.
CO8, CUBA. Juan, CO8TW, will be active during the CQ WPX CW Contest as a Single-Op/Single-Band (20m)/Low-Power entry. QSL information is IZ8CCW, and the Log will be on after the contest at: http://www.qsl.net/co8tw/

FT5Z, AMSTERDAM ISLAND. Sebastien, FT1ZL, on Amsterdam Island (AF-002) is expected to become active soon because the French have changed their licensing structure. French operators that previously hold a VHF-only license have been granted HF bands privileges and are allowed to operate on all modes except A1A, A2A, F1A and F2A. These stations usually have a 1 or 4 in their prefix. So, look for Sebastien to be on 20/17/15/12/10 meters SSB. Suggested frequencies are: 14195, 14274, 18138, 18148, 21191, 21271, 24954, 24974, 28485 and 28495 kHz. Please go easy on Sebastien because he is not used to pile-ups.
GB4, ISLE OF MAN. Members of the Wrexham and District Amateur Radio Society will be operating from the Isle of Man (IOTA EU-116) during the period of September 1-8th. The site that will be used is Scarlett Point, a discontinued Coast Guard lookout tower, approx 1.5 miles South of Castletown, Isle of Man (QRA: IO74, WAB SC26). Activity will be on all HF Bands, 50 MHz, 70MHz, 144MHz and 432 MHz, at full UK power. The team plans to operate simultaneously on 3 HF Bands (CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK and some SSTV) and 1 VHF Band. They also plan a high level of activity on the lower HF Bands with particular attention being paid to 160 and 80 meters. Stations will use a combination of aerials, including Phased Arrays, Yagi's and Quads at heights of 40 - 100 Feet. Callsigns will be: GB4IOM and GB4SPT. Some operations from the island's mountain will take place, conditions permitting, for SOTA devotees. QSL via the Bureau or direct to M1LCR (Further details and a P.O. Box address will be issued later). A number of awards are planned for working the station, either multiband/multi mode or a combination, and QSLs will be available for SWLs. Further press releases will be issued on the following dates: June 7th, July 7th, August 7th, 14th and 28th. Visit the following Web site for more details and updates: http://www.gb4iom.co.uk
