VK0 - MACQUARIE ISLAND Jim Smith, VK9NS, was talking with Tom, VK5TS/VK0TS, who activated Macquarie in mid 1997. Tom will NOT return to Macquarie but will go to the Davis Base/Antarctica in July. Jim proposed to look for a reliable VK0TS QSL manager.5X - UGANDA Mats, SM7PKK/5X1Z, is packing his things in Sweden to move to Uganda. He states that this includes also his incoming QSLs. A2 - BOTSWANA Dave, S6RVG, and Dick, ZS6CAL, were announced as A25/ZS6PDX in SSB/ CW/RTTY/SSTV for June 11-17.
FR - REUNION ISLAND Michael, FR/DL1MBM, was announced to be active by the end of May. QSL via homecall.
FT/Z - AMSTERDAM ISLAND Bernard Sidarnet, ex FB8XW and FB8YI, now received the call FT5ZI to be active between April 13 and December.
6Y - JAMAICA Masii, JE3MAS, will quit his stay on July 23. QSLs for 6Y6A, 6Y5XX or WH6X/6Y5 are all managed by JG3KIV.
C6 - BAHAMAS C6AKA from Bimini Island is QRV especially in CW and RTTY on 6-80m between May 30 and June 17. QSL via homecall DL7VOG.
HR - HONDURAS Gerard, HR3/F2JD, was on the air from Cayos Cochinos (NA-160) from May 16-19. Earlier he was sending HR6/F2JD and NA-057 by mistake! QSL via bureau to F6AJA.
YS - EL SALVADOR Raymundo, active as YS1RRD since 1963, has now the new call YS1RR.
9K - KUWAIT As far as the weather allows it Hamad, 9K2HN, plans to operate as 9K2HN/p from Kubbar Island (AS-118) on June 6. QSL via bureau or direct to 9K2HN, Hamad J Al-Nusif, Box 29174, 13152 Safat, Kuwait.
9M2 - WESTERN MALAYSIA G3LIV is QRV in CW from Langkawi Island (AS-058) from June 5-14. If requested Johnny also operates SSB. QSL via G3LIV.
HZ - SAUDI ARABIA Mike, K3UOC, quit his WPX CW activity as 7Z5OO and will return to the US by mid June. QSL direct via N2AU.
VR2 - HONG KONG VR2/F6BHK will stay in Hong Kong for the next two years. QSL via homecall.
XU - CAMBODIA Ichinose, XU6BND, is QRV (mostly on 15m CW) until mid June. QSL via his homecall JA6BND.
TF - ICELAND TF/DL6DQW is QRV in CW/SSB between May 29 and June 4. Perhaps he will activate EU-071 on June 5/6. QSL via DL6DQW.
Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA, passed away at the age of 89 on May 29. Though being a representative of the most influential government of this world he was very active in support of Amateur Radio several times.
Gilberto Affonso Penna, PY1AFA, who was organizer of the WWSA CW Contest since 1981 passed away, too. A posting from South America states that this is the reason for the CANCELLATION of the CW contest on June 13/14.
