CHAD, TT Chris, TT8DX, is expected to return in these days. He will work mostly on 6m and the lowbands and most likely he will stay until December. QSL via F5OGL.
CHILOE ISLAND, CE, SA-018 Mark, CE6TBN/7, will hit the airwaves from Mar 7-10. He will then go to Ascencion Island.
COCOS ISLAND, TI9, NA-012 TI9M is on the air since Feb 20. AD6E, AK0A, F5CWU, IK3RIY, IZ7ATN, KA0KKO, KI7WO, N4CD, N6KT, N7DF, PA3EWP, PA5ET, RK3AD, WS4Y and TI2HMG are QRV on 160-6m until Mar 2. More information can be found on their website: http://www.qsl.net/ti9m/.
EAST MALAYSIA, 9M8 9M9/JA1OEM plans to become active from Mar 4-18. The main band of operation will be 6m.
FALKLAND ISLANDS, VP8/f, SA-002 Mark, DL1SDN, is operating from the Falklands signing VP8CSA (?) until Mar 16. He will then move on to Ascension Island. No more information available yet.
GUANTANAMO BAY, KG4, NA-015 Vance, N5VL, will be on the air as KG4VL from Mar 1-6. He intends to operate also on 160m. QSL via N5VL.
HONDURAS, HR Bob, KB0CY, Denny, KB9DPF, and Lor, W3QA, are signing HR3/homecalls on 40/20/15/10m during their spare time until Mar 3. QSL via homecalls.
ICELAND, TF, EU-021 Eric, TF8/SM1TDE/p, is operating from the shack of TF8GX in Keflavik mainly in CW on 10-80m until Mar 2. QSL via SM1TDE, bureau ok.
LAOS, XW Radio amateurs from Thailand are planning visiting Laos in the beginning of March to join XW1FAN in preparing a DXpedition for April/May 2002. It is not known if they plan to operate already now.
MADAGASCAR, 5R Bruno, F5DKO, intends to work on 20 and 15m from Mar 4-17. He will stay on Nosy Be (AF-057) from Mar 4-10 and on Sainte Marie Island (AF-090) from Mar 11-17. QSL via IZ8CCW.
MADEIRA, CT3, AF-014 Hardy, CT3/DL3KWF, and Rosel, CT3/DL3KWR, will be QRV only in CW mainly on the WARC bands after their daily trips between Mar 7 and 21. All QSOs will be answered automatically at http://www.eQSL.cc. Paper QSLs via the bureau are no problem as well.
NORTH KOREA, P5 Hrane, YT1AD, and YU7AV are flying to Pyongyang on March 5. A call has not been announced yet. Hrane states: "No problems are expected at this point in time, but in P5 everything is possible." We will see!
SAUDI ARABIA, HZ Joe, W5FJG, is momentarily working in Jeddah. He is on the air as 7Z1AC in his spare time until April. QSL via WA4WTG. --- HZ1AB will be activated by SM0CXU and DF1IK on March 7/8.
SOUTH GEORGIA ISLANDS, VP8/sg, AN-007 Mike, GM0HCQ, shall hit the airwaves as VP8SGK from Mar 4-6. More info is available on his website: http://www.qsl.net/gm0hcq/.
ST. MAARTEN, PJ7, NA-105 Brian, PJ7/KD2DL, is expected to be QRV on 18080 kHz from Mar 2-9. QSL via KD2DL.
ST. MARTIN, FS, NA-105 Bert, FS/PA3GIO/m, plans to become active in SSB on 20-10m on Mar 5/6 but expect him to be QRV also from the Dutch part as PJ7/PA3GIO/m. QSLs preferred via bureau.
TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS, VP5 Randy, VP5/N0TG, will be active mainly in CW on all bands from Mar 1-7.
VANUATU, YJ Michel, F6COW, and Dominique, F6EPY, will be QRV from the island Efate and Espirito Santo (OC-035) signing YJ0AOW and YJ0APY from Mar 4-15. While listening especially for Europe they will work mostly in CW on 3515, 7015, 10115, 14015, 18095, 21015, 24905, 28015 and 50085 kHz and in SSB on 3780, 7075, 14215, 18135, 21215, 24985, 28465 and 50125 kHz. VIETNAM, 3W We just learned that Conny, DL1DA, is staying in Vietnam since Feb 25. He intends to be QRV in CW on 10-40m signing 3W9KCS (?) until Mar 15. QSL via DL1DA.
WESTERN SAHARA, S0 Without any notice in advance Baldur, DJ6SI (CW), and Karl, DK2WV (SSB), hit the airwaves as S07X and S07V. Their length of stay is not known.
The Chad is situated in Northern Africa South of Libya. The Northern part is lying within the Sahara with the highest elevation being the Emikoussi moun- tain (3415m asl) in the Tibesti mountain range. The savannah like South of the country reaches out to the Lake Chad. The climate is hot and dry, in the mountains cool and wet. In the South you can experience it is tropical hot and wet. The Chad is belonging to the poorest countries of the world. The northern part of Chad is situated directly within the Sahel zone and offers only a very small possibility for stock farming. In the South cotton and peanuts are grown. The population of about 6 million people consists of muslims, commonly referred to as "northerners" or "gorane" (Arabs, Toubou, Hadjerai, Fulbe, Kotoko, Kanembou, Baguirmi, Boulala, Zaghawa, and Maba) and non-Muslims, commonly referred to as "southerners" (Sara, Ngambaye, Mbaye, Goulaye, Moundang, Moussei, Massa) including nonindigenous 150000.
Chad's capital is called N'Djamena nowadays (in the past: Fort Lamy) with approximately 600.000 inhabitants. There is almost no tourism in the country with about 30.000 visitors to the Chad per year.
