5X4F LEAVES UGANDA. Due to increasing security problems in northwest Uganda, Paul, 5X4F, left Uganda April 25th. Paul will spend the next 4 months in the US visiting family and friends. He and his wife Peggy, 5X4G, hope to return to Arua in September. Paul hopes to attend Dayton. He will also be helping his son Curt, KB4EKY, catch up on the QSLing chores. Paul reports making over 12,400 contacts in the 8 months he was active from Uganda. The break down by bands are 650 on 160m, 1650 on 80m, 1400 on 40m, 500 on 30m, 2400 on 20m, 1100 on 17m, 575 on 12m and 1130 on 10m. 600 QSOs on 80 and 160 were made with an amp at 400 watts. The rest were all made with 100 watts on battery power. Paul is hoping to find a solid state amp to add to his solar powered station when he returns in September. (TNX to Paul_Wyse@sil.org)
6Y, JAMAICA. Theo, PA3ERL, will be active as PA3ERL/6Y5 from June 13-29th. His plans for band activity and operations were not received. QSL via PA3ERL.
9H, MALTA. NODXA members and friends from Berlin will once again be active from 9H. Operators and their callsigns will be: Tom/DL2RUM/9H3VP, Ragnar/DL7URH/9H3VJO, Tom/DL7UTM/9H3/VN, Holger/DL7IO/9H3TY, and Birgit, DL7IQ, using 9H3TZ for the YL contacts. 9H3 calls for DL7UEA and DL1YFF are to be issued later. The 7 team operators plan to be active in the CQWW WPX CW Contest on May 26th and 27th, from the Fanal Lighthouse on Gozo. Their equipment will include the following: FT-990 AT; 2XFT-890 AT; IC-735; 2XHL1KGX 500 watt amp; 3 notebook computers (some to be used on Packet and RTTY); 3 ELEMENT TRIBANDER FOR 20, 10 and 15; 2XTITANEX verticals for 80 and 160 meters (each 22 meters high); HF6V vertical R-7; and a 4 element log periodic wire beam for 80 meters. 9L, SIERRA LEONE. Baldur, DJ6SI, is currently active as 9L/DJ6SI. His length of stay in unknown at this time. He generally operates mainly CW but has been heard on SSB. Activity should be on all bands, especially watch the WARC bands.
9M0, SPRATLY ISLANDS. Jaan, SM0OEK, currently active as 9M2JJ in Malaysia, is thinking about going to Pulau Layang Layang (which is one of the islands in the Spratlys). Planning is in the early stages and Jaan is soliciting help from local hams in Malaysia and anyone that can provide information to get this DXpedition afoot. BRITISH AMATEUR RADIO TELEDATA GROUP (BARTG/GB2ATG) news bulletin would like to remind everyone that the A.N.A.R.T.S. WW RTTY Contest starts 0000z Saturday June 8th until 2400 Sunday June 9, 1996 (Second full weekend in June each year.). Bands to be used are 80, 40, 20 15 and 10 metres. Modes to be used are all digital modes permitted (RTTY, Amtor, FEC, PKT, Pactor). Note; No Satellite operation permitted.
THE "ISLAND HOPPER" DX BULLETIN. Terry, W9JOO, informs OPDX that he and Art, N2AU, has started a new bulletin which is published 26 issues as year (sent first class mail). Terry has provided the following statement: "Like to work islands? We will keep you informed on what is the latest happenings in the world of island hunting; upcoming DXpeditions; how to get that QSL; articles on island operations; results of contests and special coverage of US Islands Program. There is 78 years of ham experience between N2AU and W9JOO. Both are DXers and Contesters. Terry is on the honor roll with 321. Art publishes INSIDE DX and has many sources of info. IOTA NEWS...
KH4, MIDWAY KH4. Bill, NH6D, is once again going out to Midway Island (KH4), leaving Honolulu on the evening of May 16th for at least one week. Bill will be active on all bands, SSB/CW; 80/160 meters at 22:00 local Midway time. If possible, he will stay on the island for CQWW/WPX. Bill also plans to put a lot of emphasis on EU/AF QSO's this time around. QSL via KL7H/6.
OH0 & OI0, ALAND ISLANDS. Hadi, DJ2PJ, and Peter, DL5FF, will be active as OH0JWH and OH0JWL, respectively, for the second time again from Oeverby on the Aland Islands (JP90TF). Their activity will be from June 7-14th. They will be accompanied by Rainer (OH0/DL1ZBO) and Karl (OH0/DL4FAN). Operations will include all HF bands and 50 MHz on CW, RTTY (ANARTS Contest) and SSB. Hadi will sign OI0JWH CW and SSB on 6 meters (50.210 MHz, working split if necessary). QSLs for OH0JWH and OI0JWH go via DJ2PJ, OH0JWL and OI0JWL via DL5FF and the others to their home calls. UPCOMING DX CONVENTIONS........
VK9, CHRISTMAS ISLAND. Gerben, PA0GAM will be here as VK9GA from May 23-27th. He will be active on 80-10 meters CW. QSL via PA0GIN, Geert Heemstra, Noorderkroonstraat 16, 9742XD Groningen, Netherlands.
XU, KAMPUCHEA (Cambodia). Ray, HS0/G3NOM, reports an operation will take place from Phnom Phen, from May 10-15th. The prime purpose of this visit, however, will be to train local operators, and not stage a "high profile" DXpedition. So, please, don't expect a highly committed, multi-band and multi-mode operation. Operators will be JA1UT/Yoshi, JA1CMS/Abe, JA4FWM/Akio, JH4LPY/Eiji, JR0CGJ/Shimuzu and the callsign to be used is XU1CJF (Cambodia-Japan Friendship). Operations will be mainly on CW/SSB on 7/14 MHz, on the usual DX Frequencies. QSL Manager is Shimuzu San, JR0CGJ (via the callbook address or via bureau). ADDED NOTE: Via the Ohio/Penn Network, XU1CJF was heard May 10th on 14205 kHz at 1600z, 7050 kHz at 2125z and 21298 kHz at 1030z.
XX9, MACAO. The DXNS report that Martin, AA1ON/G4DZC, will visit Macao in the middle of May on his way back from a business trip in Thailand. He will try to be active.
YB3OSE QSLS. Bob, W7TSQ, (QSL Manager for YB3OSE) reports he has received the logs covering April, 1995, through March, 1996, (and April, 1996, is in the mail) from Achmad, YB3OSE. All outstanding cards will be in the mail soon.
YO, ROMANIA. Jean, F6AJA, will be here and active as YO/F6AJA during his free time (This will not be a DXpedition, but he will use YO8FZ's station during his stay.), from May 20 to 25th.
ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Just a reminder! Mike, W5ZPA -- DXAC Rep for the Delta Division -- will be active from Grand Cayman as ZF2PA, May 19-25th. QSL via W5ZPA.
