3V4, QERQUENAH ISLAND (Rare IOTA from Tunisia). Mome, Z32ZM, informed OPDX (and others) that he together with Dragan/Z32AU (HB9DNE), Hrane/YT1AD (Z31AD) and two other operators from the club station 3V8BB, will put this very rare island on the air for the first time in more than 40 years. They will activate IOTA AF-073 between September 11-18th. Their station will be on the air 24 hours a day with operations on CW, SSB and RTTY. The following are the suggested fequencies:
5X, UGANDA. The "DX News Sheet" reports that Laurence, GM4DMA, will be active again August 14-21st as 5X1LH. Activity will be mostly on 17, 15 and 6 meters with 100 watts beaming to Europe. QSL via home call.
A3, REP. OF TONGA. JA2JW, his XYL JA2DPC and his second son JL2ONQ should be active by the time you read this. They are to arrive on August 10th and stay until August 14th (QRT at 0700z). They will be active on 80-6 meters, SSB/CW. They will use 100 watts into G5RV for 80-10m, dipole for 30m and a 6 element yagi for 6 meters. Check 28350 kHz for 6 meters schedule. Look for A35YH/JA2JW (mainly CW), A35PC/JA2DPC (mainly SSB) and A35NQ/JL2ONQ (mainly on 6m). QSL via each homcall.
A5, BHUTAN. Jim Smith, VK9NS, will be releasing a HIDXA announcement VERY soon about a possible visit to A5, Bhutan, towards the end of October. A separate bulletin will be issued as soon as we receive it. Meanwhile, OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive a special additional bulletin that Jim put out earlier in the week about his good friend from A5 who passed away.
BI7, WEI-ZHOU ISLAND (New China IOTA). Yang, BD7JA, informs OPDX that after several months of hard work and planning, he and others plan to go to Wei-Zhou Island (Chinese island listed as "d" for the IOTA program). Members of the operating team will be BD7IA, BG7IB, BD7IX, BD7JA, BD7JG, BD7JK, BD7KW, BG7NI, BG7NQ and BG7SU. They will be on the island August 20th and leave August 23rd. They will use the callsign BI7W. They will be active on 40-10 meters with operations on SSB, CW and RTTY. Their station will be equipped with a TS-950, TS-690, FT-900, AS, 40-2CD and a generator. CE, CHILE. Steve, NE4Z, is active from Santiago as CE3/NE4Z. Activity is mainly on 28340 or 21340 from 2200-0000z daily. He has also been heard on 7031 (at 0345z), 14057 and 14188 kHz. EV200, BELARUS. Nick, EW4EW, reports that a Byelorusian-Polish special event station EV200AM will be activated between August 21-25th to celebrate the 200th anniversary/birthday of Adam Mitskewich. Operations will be from Novogrudok, Adam Mitskewich's native land. QSL via EW4WW or EW4MM. Meanwhile, the ARRL DX Bulletin states EU200A, EV200M and EW200M will be on the air for the same celebration until December 31st. QSL via operators instructions.
FM, MARTINIQUE. "The 59(9) DXReport" states that Vincent, F5JMV, will be active from here as FM5JV for the next 3 years beginning August 11th. QSL via F5LNV for a special QSL.
FP, ST. PIERRE & MIQUELON (Correction/Update). Last week we mentioned that the Prairie DX Group DXpedition would be going here (Aug. 26th to Sept. 1st) but gave the incorrect callsign FP/N9ND. The correct callsign is FP/N9PD. QSL DIRECT or via Bureau to N9PD (not N9ND as mentioned). As contacts are made with the stations from around the world, this activity will be reflected on the group's web page within minutes. For the first time hams and non-hams around the world will have the opportunity to view and study the activities of a DXpedition as it happens. In addition to live ON-THE-AIR logs, the Prairie DX web site will include Amateur Radio related links, featured information regarding the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon, plus updated photographs and sound files from the DXpedition. This unique, VIRTUAL DXpedition will afford hams the opportunity to immediately verify their contact with a DX station. The PDXG has a Web page available at: http://www.prairiedx.com
GB5, FLATHOLM ISLAND (Wales). Eleven members of the Barry Amateur Radio Society will be operating as GB5FI from this Welsh Island (IOTA EU-124) from August 28th to September 2nd. They will be operating on all bands on SSB, CW, RTTY, Slow Scan, Pactor and Amtor. QSL via GW0ANA, Nirvana, Castle Precinct, Llandough, Cowbridge CF71 7LX or Bureau. JD1, OGASAWARA ISLAND. Look for Eiji, JQ1SUO, to be active beginning on the evening of August 14th until the morning of August 16th. He will sign JQ1SUO/JD1 and will operate mainly on 20, 17 and 12 meters. QSL via homecall.
KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Masa, JH6VLF, will be active from Rota Island (OC-086) as KH0/WD7CLP, October 9-12th. He will also be active in the VK/ZL/Oceania CW Contest. PU5, SAO FRANCISCO ISLAND (BRAZIL). This Brazilian island located in the Santa Catarina State North Group (IOTA SA-027, and DIB 08) will be on the air September 10-14th. XM3/CH3/CI3/VE8 POLAR BEAR DX-PEDITION 98 (CANADA). Just a quick reminder that this operation takes place next weekend. A group of Canadians have been authorized to use the special callsign XM3PBX for their Polar Bear Expedition train trip from Toronto to Moosonee (August 15-30th). They will also make a couple of stops on the way using the special callsigns CH3HBC/325, CI3XXV/25 and either VE8C or VE8I. XU, KAMPUCHEA (Cambodia). Steve, K2WE (aka 3W6WE and XU2WE), mentioned in his 3W6WE QSL announcement (above) to watch for an upcoming XU operation later in the year.
YE1, INDONESIA (Special Event). A group of ORARI members will go to Ujung Kulon National Park located in the western tip of West Java (OC-021), Indonesia, to operate as YE1ZI. This special event station is to commemorate the 53th anniversary of Indonesian Independence on August 17, 1998. The operation should be active on August 15th at 0000z and remain on air until August 17th, at 0500z. The team will operate on SSB and CW on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meter bands. QSL via YB0TK, direct (with SAE and mailcost/IRCs) to: Maruto, PO Box 6763 JKSRB, Jakarta 12067, Indonesia or YB0TK via bureau. Special certificates will be sent to those who are interested and able to contact YE1ZI on at least three bands (phone and/or CW, mixed) during its operation. Fee for certificate is US$ 10.00. ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Look for Jim, KD3YK, to be active now until August 14th as ZF2JM. There have been no QSNs reported over the weekend. Jim plans to operate QRP CW on 20 and 40 meters. QSL via KD3YK.
