Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society, Northern Ohio DX Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster Network, WB2RAJ/WB2YQH & The 59(9) DXReport, W3UR & The Daily DX, WK3N, KI4RU, KN4T, N6RT, W8CNL, N9AG, K0RS, DJ5AV & DX News Letter, F5NOD, F6AJA & LNDX, G3SXW, G4BUE & DX News Sheet, ON7YO, PA3DMH, PS7KM, SP5UAF, VK9NS & HIDXA and ZL2AL for the following DX information.

3D2, FIJI. Lee, 3D2VA (ex-VP2VE), is active on all bands, SSB/CW. However, Lee is on most mornings on 20 meters between 1100z and 1300z around 14165 and 14226.5 kHz. He was also heard last Friday on 24935 kHz around 2315z. QSL via WA2NHA.

8J, ANTARCTICA. Several bulletins state that the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition station 8J1RL at Showa Base, Ongul Island (AN-015) is now active. They report that the station has been heard on 21228 kHz at 0900-1000z.

9K, KUWAIT. You only have a few days left to work Bob, 9K2ZZ, because he is leaving Kuwait on November 14th. He has been very active these past few days on 40 and 10 meters. His QSL Manager Ray, W8CNL, states that as of November 5th, Bob has made 162,498 QSOs. Look for Bob to be active on 160-10 meters including all 3 WARC bands on SSB, CW, and RTTY.

A5, BHUTAN (HIDXA trip postponted). Your editor received a letter from Jim Smith, VK9NS, who was planning to go to Bhutan during the last week of October or the first week of November, but the following was reported by Jim: ".... I have reluctantly decided to postpone my planned travel for the time being for several reasons. We have had major problems on Norfolk in the last two weeks involving air travel to and from the island. The mail situation has been terrible to put it mildly. This has been partly due to an extended period of very poor weather conditions. In one 36 hour perriod alone the island had between 12 and 14 inches of rain (depending on location) with high winds and great deal of disruptions to power and island facilities. All the antennas survived but one tower was almost lost but saved by its safety guying system. We are used to these storms from time to time and there is still much to be done here. There will be some disappointment at this decision however as you are aware this planned visit to MOC was not intended to be a DXpedition (see HIDXA Release) but rather a means of getting things organized for the near future. Many of the donations received were linked to a DXpedition type activity. There is a great deal to be done in Thimphu so that a viable station system is in place and ready to go. It is some years now since HIDXA donated a considerable amount of amateur radio equipment (some 10000 USD) to the Wireless Division (now M.O.C.) as a means of assisting Bhutan make a start. It has been a long and difficult road for MOC (and HIDXA) trying to get the necessary Telecommunications Legislation in place to permit the hobby of Amateur Radio and other Telecomm, related matters. Bhutan has been a long time project of HIDXA as you know..... We will return to Bhutan as soon as it is practical to do so and when I can travel to Bangkok more easily. Will be back in touch with you. Warm regards and Tashi Dalek! (may your journey be a safe one)....." 73, Your in Amateur Radio, Jim VK9NS, HIDXA

BQ9P, PRATAS. Remember to look for activity this week (refer to OPDX.381). The operation will take place between November 12-19th. The callsign will be BQ9P and not BV9P as used in the past.

CORRECTIONS TO OPDX.381. There were two minor typos in last week's bulletin. Under "3W, Vietnam", Coly's (UA0FM) Vietnam callsign should have been 3W5FM, not 3W5FW. Also, under the "Thanks to" credits the callsign US0SJ should have been UA0SJ.

C6, BAHAMAS. Dick, N4RP, plans to be active as C6A/N4RP from Bimini (IOTA NA-48) between November 20th and December 2nd. This includes a low-power all-band entry in the CQWW CW Contest. Outside of the contest, Dick will be active on all bands including the WARC bands. Activity will be mostly CW. QSL C6A/N4RP either direct to Dick's home QTH (2805 Casita Way, Apartment 115, Delray Beach, FL, 33415) or via the W4 bureau.

E3, ERITREA. The "Space A DX Group" is on the air now as E30GA. The group had a two day delay in operations due to their equipment being held up in customs for two days. Currently they have three stations up and active. According to "The Daily DX", authorization was granted to the group for 30 meters on a 2nd class basis. This means they can not interfere with other non amateur transmissions. Also reported, the group will mostly be using the E30GA callsign, even though the operators have received their own personal callsign (Joe/E30GA, Vance/E30FA, Bruce/E30JA, Franz/E30BA and Elvira/E30IA). QSL cards for E30GA go to K4JDJ, all other callsigns go via their home calls.

FT5Z, AMSTERDAM. The team of F5PFP and F5SIH (the two FT5ZH operators) are on Reunion Island until November 10th. They will leave on the ship "Marion Dufresne" for the long trip to FT5W, FT5X and FT5Z. They plan to arrive on Amsterdam November 24th. Operation start-up is scheduled for November 27th.

J6, ST.LUCIA. The SouthWest Ohio DX Association is again organizing an operation from here for the CQWWDX CW Contest. Their station J6DX will be active as a Multi-operator, Multi-transmitter entry in the contest. A total of seventeen operators will install and operate the "Field Day" type station this year. The team will begin arriving on the island on November 22nd. The first on-the-air activity will probably take place the next day. Operations will wrap up on December 6. Look for SSB, CW and RTTY activity on all bands. The group will also have a KW and 5-over-5 yagis on 6 meters. Nine veteran members will host eight rookie operators. The veterans of past J6DX adventures are: Dean, AC0S/J68AH; Jack, K9JE/ J68AR; Steve, N8BJQ/J68AI; Bob, N8NR/J68NR; Steve, N8SM/J68AG; Scott N9AG/J68AS; Ron, W8ILC/J68AM; Frank, W8OK/J68OK; and Kirk, W8QID/J68ID. QSL cards for these ops go to their home calls. Newcomers are: Don, K8NOZ; Lou, K9LU; Gary, K9MMS; Gary, KI6T; George, N2GA; Don, N6JRL; Leo, S50R; and Geoff, W0CG. QSL arrangements will be announced for these operators. The group will be active in the ARRL 160 Meter contest working all who call. The call used will be J6DX or J6A. All QSLs for J6DX or J6A should be sent to N9AG. E-mail requests for bureau replies will be honored. A special effort will be made to activate all operators on the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, November 27th. Activity will take place in the U.S. Novice band, 28.1 MHz to 28.2 MHz CW and 28.3 MHz to 28.5 MHz SSB. A special souvenir of St. Lucia will be sent to the station making the most contacts with St. Lucian stations. Contacts count only once per mode. Ties will be broken by lot. Anyone contacting five or more J6 stations will receive a certificate. Send a large SASE to N9AG for the certificate, please.

JD, OGASAWARA. Look for Den, JI1FLB, to become active between December 30th and January 2nd. His callsign was not provided, but his activity will be on all bands (including 6 meters) with some satellite operations.

JI, AWAJI ISLAND (JAPAN). Takeshi, JI3DST, who was active this past weekend from here, will again be active November 14-16th during the "1998 Japan International DX Phone Contest". Activity will be mainly 15 and 10 meters. This island is located in the Honshu's coastal island group and has the IOTA of AS-117. Details on the contest will be provided to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

PJ, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. The "DX News Sheet" reports that Joeke, PA0VDV, will be active once again from here between November 29th and December 28th, probably as PJ9/PA0VDV. Activity will be from from Curacao with operations mostly on CW. QSL via home callsign.

PY0S, ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL ROCKS. Karl, PS7KM, reports that the NATAL DX Group of Brazil continues preparations for their "March 1999" DXpedition. The followings operators will participate in this operation: JA4MRL, PT7AA, PS7KM and WX5L. The QSL information is as follows: CW contacts go via PT7AA and for SSB/RTTY go to PS7KM, via callbook. The team plans to operate 160-6 meters for 12 days or for two full consecutives weekends. Priority will be given to the bands on 6/40/80/160 meters and RTTY. They mention the possibility that this will be one of the last DXpedition, to these rocks due to the increasing control of the area by the Brazilian Navy and Dept. of the Environment. There are already four researchers from those departments on the rocks on a permanent basis. The DXpedition projected budget has been set for 11,000 (USD) and that 70% of that amount will be allocated for the leasing of a sailboat, which will be anchored nearby for the entire duration of the operation. Therefore, they are requesting financial support from the ham radio community, clubs and DX foundations which would help make the difficult access to these rocks possible. If you would like to help, please, send your contributions/donations to: PS7KM or WX5L or JA4MRL, via callbook.
