3C0, ANNOBON. A press release by Tony, EA5BY, reports the finalizing plans for a DXpedition to the island of Annobon scheduled for September 14 through 24th, 1999. Their goals are the following: first of all to provide as many stations with a new country, and second is to leave open doors for other possible DXpeditions. Annobon island is very much needed as evidenced as being identified in the top 10 (7th place) on the most wanted list. The callsign to be used will be 3C0R. With four stations operational, this should allow easy access for those in need. One station has been identified specifically for RTTY. The other three will pay attention to SSB as well as CW. The list of operators are: Ramon/3C1GS, Roberto/3C1RV, Elmo/EA5BYP and Vic/EA5YN. The complete press release will be sent to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

AMATEUR RADIO NEXT ???? "PLEASE!" On nationally televised news this week, reports showed that the Bhutanese government has allowed broadcast television available in their country for the first time. However, the TV station is government run. Could "Amateur Radio" be next?

ATTENTION ISLAND/LIGHTHOUSE ENTHUSIAST. Look for UE6AAF to be active from Utrish Island in The Black Sea from July 14-20th. This operation will count for the "Russian Robinson Award (RRA)" as RR 24 01 and for the "World Lighthouse Award (WLH)" as LH 1236. CANCELLATION. Bill, W4WX, from the "Space A Group", announced that his Haiti operation/trip (see OPDX.416) was cancelled due to very negative travel advisories put out by the State Department. Bill states, "Will try something else."

CT7, PORTUGAL. On July 31st, August 1st and 2nd, look for activity by CT7P from Fort Peniche by operators CT1CBI/Ant, CT1FIJ/Vitor and CT2FUP/ Fernando. Contacts will count for F-031, which is valid towards the DCFP Diploma Castle and Forts Portuguese Award. It is also valid towards the DMP Award Country Portuguese NBA 1014. QSL via CT1CBI bureau or direct.

H44, SOLOMON ISLANDS. "The 59(9) DXReport" reports that Peter, G8BCG, will be in the Solomons in late 1999/early 2000 as H44PT. No other details were given.

IOTA NEWS (Stations continue to prepare for the upcoming IOTA Contest, July 24-25th)...........

• AS-080. A group which includes HL1OYF, HL1OJQ, HL1TXQ, DS1BHE, DS1CNO, DS1EON, DS1CJE and HL3ENE will be active from Anmyeon Island (located in the Chungchongnam-do Islands Group) on July 23-25th. They will be active during the IOTA Contest CW/SSB 40/20/15/10 meters. Operators will sign homecall/3. The group plans to bring 3 transceivers w/2 amps (500W) and 3 beam antennas. QSL via HL1OYF (Duk-Nam Kim, P.O. Box 54, Dong-Jack, Seoul, 156-600, Korea) or via homecall's CBA.
• EU-003. Moreira, CT1AHU, member of the LNDX, will operate between July 21 and 31st, as CU3/CT1AHU. QSL via home callsign. (Also good for DIP AZ-003).
• EU-016. The contest team OL5T (OK1MD, OK1TC, OK1DJG, OK1FLM, OK1HSK, OK1ILP) and 9A3EO will be active from Kornati Island during the IOTA Contest as 9A0A. QSL via OK1FLM, Martin Korda, Simackova 17, 170 00, Praha 7, Czech Republic.
• EU-052. This year Laci, HA0HW, will spend his holiday with his family on Korfu (Kerkira) Island again. Look for him between July 19th and August 2nd. He will be on all bands, including the WARC bands, on CW/SSB/RTTY. The low band activity will depend on the availability of free space to hang up some long wires. On the other bands he will use mono verticals on fishing rods. He will also be in the IOTA Contest. Laci states, "It is a vacation but last summer I managed more than 8500 QSOs from Thassos Island (EU-049) in a two week period.........hi".
• EU-067. Harald, DL7VSN, will be active from the Greek island Mykonos, July 12-26th. Operations will be on CW and RTTY with 100 watts into a groundplane. Harald will take part in the IOTA Contest.
• EU-081. Look for operators F6DQM, F5JSK, F5LJA, F5OGG, F5TBA, F1DPP, F1ORL and F1UVN to be active in the IOTA Contest as TM2F from St. Marcouf Island (MA-001). Contacts are also good for the LH-0060 (World Lighthouse Award). QSL via F5LJA.
• EU-089. CT1AHU, CU3EJ and CU3AD will participate in the IOTA Contest as CU8I from Flores Island. QSL via CU3EJ. Meanwhile, Moreira, CT1AHU, member of the LNDX, will be active sometime between July 21 and 31st as as CU8/CT1AHU. QSL via home callsign. (Also good for DIP AZ-008).
• EU-096. Operators OH1MDR/OH0MDR, OH1NOA/OH0NOA and OH1MM/OH0NSJ will be OH0MDR/1 from Sandstrom Reef as a multi-operator island DXpedition class entry in the upcoming IOTA Contest. QSL via OH1MDR. • EU-132. Operators SP6AZT, SP6CZ, SP6ECA, SP6TPM and DJ0AF will be active from Wolin Island (SPIA SZ-02) during the IOTA Contest as SN6F/1. QSL via bureau.
• SA-028. The ABRA-DX Brazilian Association has announced that they will be active from Sao Sebastiao Island (St. Sebastian Island.), July 21 or 22 through 25th The callsigns ZW2SS (phone) and ZY2SS (CW) will be used. Besides SSB and CW, they will try to work also in SSTV. Activity will be on the traditional bands, the WARC bands and maybe 160 meters. Operators (confirmed): PP5LL, PT2HF, PT2NP, PY2HN and PY2PA.
• SA-057. The Uruguayan radio group called "Radio Club Oriental" will be active July 17-18th, from "Timoteo Dominguez Island" with the support of the Uruguayan Navy. This activity is in celebration of Uruguay's anniversary of their first Uruguayan constitution. Activity will be on 80/40/20/10/2 meters on SSB and CW using the callsign CX4CA. A special QSL card will be available.

OH0, ALAND ISLAND. Another operation is planned from here by Hartmut, DJ7ST. Look for him to be active as OH0/DJ7ST August 2-20th. Activity will be QRP 5 watts on all bands mainly CW. QSL via homecall.

• Jun, JH4RHF (KH2S, OE/ZL1RH), who was operating as 4U1VIC for the IARU Contest this past weekend, states to QSL via OE bureau unless other routes were mentioned. Also, if you are using CT during the contest, note that CT misunderstands 4U1VIC as YK, Zone 39. 4U1VIC is in Zone 28, OE.
• QSL LU7EC via "Luc" Mariano Elichagaray, Sarmiento S/N C.P.2703, Carabelas Bs, As ARGENTINA or via the bureau.
• Dave, G4FRE, has now returned from his SV9/G4FRE operation netting 1300 QSOs. He states that "condx not brilliant, didn't really get into U.S.A. on digital modes until the last night when I worked 100+ on PSK31 and RTTY." He reports that some cards have already been received at G4FRE despite the announced QSL route (on air and via bulletins) being via WW2R. Cards sent to his UK callsign will have to be personally dealt with by Dave on his next trip to the UK on SEPTEMBER 28th. So, if you don't want to wait 3 months, use WW2R!
• QSL cards for 5H1/DL7VSN, Harald, DL7VSN, reports that if anybody did not receive a QSL card for his operation in September 1997, to please send him an E-mail to: h.schlesinger-dl7vsn@t-online.de He will send it once more via the bureau.

SI, SWEDEN (Attention Prefix Hunters). The callsign SI9AM and prefix will be aired for the first time ever July 17-18th, during the opening of the Thai Pavilion, "King Chulalongkorn Memorial Building", in Ragunda, Sweden. The Pavilion is of course in Thai style and the only one outside Thailand. For more information about the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Building, see the Web page: http://www.ragunda.se/ SI9AM will later be established as a visiting Amateur Radio Station near "The King Chulalongkorn Memorial Building". Look for activity, especially on the weekends after July 17-19th until September, on all band CW/SSB. QSL to SM3CVM via bureau or direct CBA. QSLs are to be printed in late August. SPECIAL EVENT. The Florida DXpedition Group (W4DXP) will be operational for the International Lighthouse Day, August 21-22nd, from the Amelia Island Lighthouse which is located on IOTA NA-138. The special callsign will be W4A and QSLs will go to N5VL. This is the first and possibly the only operation to take place from this location as the lighthouse and its property are for sale by the U.S. Government.

TM5, FRANCE. Look for the special callsign TM5FDH to be used during August 15-29th. QSL via F5LGF.

VP5, PROVIDENCIALES ISLAND. The team of Frank/WA2VYA, Ken/K2WB and Jack/ N2VW will be operating as VP5T from IOTA NA-002, part of the Turks and Caicos Islands, from October 26th to November 2nd for the 1999 CQ WW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st) as a Multi/Multi entry. Emphasis will be on CW and the WARC bands before and after contest. QSL to N2VW with a SASE/SAE+return postage, or bureau via N2VW. QSL VP5/homecalls via homecalls via the bureau or direct to their CBA. All the QSLing info applies to SWL cards, too.

VP9, BERMUDA. Isao, JH1ROJ, informs the OPDX group that he is planning a trip here at the end of this month and has already received his license as KG8XV/VP9. Look for him to be active July 24-31st. Activity will be 80-10 meters (including the WARC bands) CW and SSB. QSL via JH1ROJ.

ZX0, ST. PETER AND ST PAUL ROCKS. A press release by Karl, PS7KM, from the Natal DX Group, has announced this week that a DXpedition will begin between the end of September and the beginning of October. Further information will be available sometime in the middle of September. Contacts with the Brazilian Navy through the Sea Resources Secretariat Comission were made and two radio operators will be allowed to remain on the rocks for the duration of the ship's stay. The Brazilian Navy visits the rocks for maintenance on their equipment once every six months. The NATAL DX GROUP has designated two operators for the DXpedition: Karl Leite, PS7KM, and Pergentino Andrade, PT7AA. Operations will be on the air for 10 consecutive days, 24 hours a day, on 6/12/15/17/20/40 and 80 meters on CW and SSB. Special emphasis will be given to the 40 and 80 meters bands. The callsign for SSB will be ZX0SK (QSL via PS7KM). The callsign for CW will be ZW0SP (QSL via PT7AA).
