3W2, VIETNAM (QRP UPDATE). Scott, AC3A, has received confirmation of his 3W2SO license. He was expected to begin his operation this past weekend and will only be operating QRP on 15 and 20 meters.

3W5, VIETNAM. Coly, UA0FM, active as 3W5FM continues to be very active on 30 and 80 meters. Look for him on 3503 kHz around 1115z and 10102 kHz bewteen 1130 and 1430z. His length of stay is not known. Meanwhile, "The 59(9) DXReport" reports that Takay, JA7GAX, is active until the end of March as 3W2GAX. QSL via JA7GAX. The "DX News Letter" states that Takay plans to be active as XV2GAX/p also from Phu Quoc (AS-128) from March 21-27th and from Hon Tam (no IOTA yet) from March 25-30th.

8Q, MALDIVES. Peter, HA2SX, will be active from here as 8Q7KK until March 25th. He will be on holiday with his family but will take some time to be active on his radio. His rig is a FT-100 (100 watts out) DX88 and G5RV antennas for 80-10 meters including the WARC bands too. He will operate on CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31/HELL/MT63/SSTV. His planned operating schedule (his local time): 7:00 AM on 12/10 meters then 15 meters until aprox. 1300 PM; afternoon from 1400 PM on 17/20 meters; evening on 30/40 meters and with some luck on 80 meters (CW only). For CW operations, check 20 khz from the band edge and on the WARC bands, check +8, +10 kHz. QSL via direct or via bureau to HA2SX. Attention: The 8Q7KK was given out several times before to different operators!!

9G, GHANA. Andy, G4ZVJ, now active as 9G5VJ, will be here until March 20th. He has been spotted on 80 meters over the past weekend on 3508 kHz around 2215z. During last week, he was active on 10 and 12 meters CW between 1230 and 1730z. QSL via G4ZVJ.

ARMED FORCES DAY 2000. It has been announced that the annual event "Armed Forces Day" has been moved to avoid the Dayton Hamvention this year. From an excerpt from the ARRLWeb Page, "Although Armed Forces Day will be celebrated on Saturday, May 20, 2000, the Secretary of Defense has designated May 13-21, 2000, as Armed Forces Week. To avoid a conflict with Dayton Hamvention, the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are co-sponsoring the annual Amateur Radio communications tests in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day on May 13-14, 2000." C2, NAURU. The "DX News Letter" reports that Jack/VK2GJH and Nev/VK2QF intend to operate as C21JH and C21/VK2QF during March/April. Activity is planned for the HF bands and especially 6 meters. FO0AAA, CLIPPERTON ISLAND DXPEDITION (NOW QRT). According to the last press release dated March 8th, "The Clipperton team has made 69,400 QSOs as of 0000Z on March 8. They are going QRT at 1800Z on March 8." OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive the last press release as an additional bulletin. There will probably be a wrap-up press release some time this week.

IOTA NEWS.........

JW, SVALBARD. Look for Jan, LA5QFA, to be active as JW5QFA from March 17-20th. Activity will be mostly on the lower bands (80-160m) on SSB. QSL via LA5QFA.

KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Vance, N5VL, will be operating as KG4VL from IOTA NA-015 from March 22-29th. This will also included an entry in the CQ WPX SSB Contest. QSL to N5VL.

LP7, ARGENTINA. Javier, LU9HS, reports to OPDX that he will use the special callsign, LP7H, in upcoming contests. Look for it on SSB and RTTY in the CQ WPX SSB Contest and other 2000 contests. QSL via LU9HS to one of the following addresses:

LX7, LUXEMBOURG. Philippe, LX2AJ, informs OPDX that he will be active during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest with the special callsign LX7I, but only on 40 meters. NEW DIFO NUMBER ACTIVATED. Franck, FK8HC, activated N'Die Island on March 10th for 18 hours on CW/SSB. This New Caledonia island has a new "French Overseas Island Award" reference number of DIFO FK-079. QSL via VK4FW. OHIO QSO PARTY (Correction. Please pass the word!). The Ohio QSO Party is "NOT" in March as listed in the March issue of QST. It is now in August and is run by the "Mad River Radio Club". The URL is: http://www.qsl.net/mrrc/oqp.html

P4, ARUBA. John, W2GD, will be active as P40W from October 25-30th, which will include activity in the CQ Worldwide Phone Contest as a Single Op/ All Band entry (Power Class TBD - probably QRP). His activity will be on 160-10 meters, with some WARC activity before the contest. QSL via N2MM. By the way, this is a Frankford Radio Club Dxpedition.

PIRATE ALERT. It has been reported that someone is using the callsign of Roberto, YS1CO, who has been a "Silent Key" since February 13th. The President of one of the local clubs in El Salvador reports that they keep receiving QSLs for contacts after Roberto passing. Please pass the word that this pirate is active.

QSL INFO AND NEWS................

SPECIAL EVENT. During the past weekend (March 11-12th), station M2000Y/MRL37 was active from the Pickets Lock Radio and Computer Fair in London. Look for activity again June 24-25th, but this time signing M2000Y/MRH30 and being active from the Petersfield Carnival Show in Hampshire.

TX, CHESTERFIELD ISLAND. This possible new DXCC entity is scheduled to hit the airwaves this week! There will be a team of members from the South Association des Radio Amateurs de Nouvelle Caledonie (ARANC) as well as FK8GM, FK8HC, JA1BK, N5KO, N7NG, OH1RY, OH2BC, OH2BH and OH2RF who will operate from here between March 15th and April 1st. A last-minute operator change occurred since Tim, N4GN, was not able arrange his business commit- ments to match the expedition schedule. Tim's slot has now been filled by Trey Garlough, N5KO, who will join TX0DX as a member of the CW team. They are scheduled to activate the callsign TX8CI first and then TX0DX starting on March 23rd (were New Caledonia is expected to be an official IARU member by this day). Four stations should be active as TX0DX (with two on CW and two SSB). There will also be RTTY activity and activity in the CQ WPX SSB Contest. UZ8, UKRAINE (New Prefix!). Look for the new prefix/callsign UZ8RR to be active on all bands 160-10 meters CW ONLY. The QSL Manager for NA, SA and other DX stations go to W3HC: Carl F. VC3, CANADA. Kip, VA3MM, will use the special callsign VC3M for the CQ WPX SSB CONTEST this March 25-26th, plus before and after the contest on RTTY. QSL to VE3CKF in any callbook.

VK9C, COCOS KEELING ISLAND (Update). Bert, PA3GIO, has updated OPDX stating that he will be active as VK9CQ from IOTA OC-003 between August 26th and September 1st. As mentioned in OPDX.449, he will be on the IOTA or DX frequencies (SSB only) on 80/40/20/17/15/12/10 meters using his Kenwood TS-50 w/100 watts into a Doublet. VK9X, CHRISTMAS ISLAND (Update). Bert, PA3GIO, has updated OPDX stating that he will be active as VK9XV from IOTA OC-002 from September 2-13th. As mentioned in OPDX.449 and above in VK9C, his activity will be the same here. VK0, MACQUARIE ISLAND. Alan, VK0MM, has announced the following: "Due to recent interference to the ionosonde/riometer receivers and other sensitive Upper Atmospheric Physics equipment at the research station, the Senior Communications Engineer on the island has directed that VK0MM operations shall be limited to a window of frequencies between 10 & 15 Megahertz until further notice." VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS. Frank/WA2VYA, Ken/K2WB and John/N2VW will operate from VP5JM's QTH on Providenciales (NA-002) from October 24-31st. The arrangements are confirmed. This is a Frankford Radio Club Dxpedition. They will be in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest (October 28-29th) as VP5T as a Multi-Multi category. Their activity will be on CW, WARC bands and PSK31 before and after the contest. QSL VP5T to N2VW.
