FO - MARQUESAS & AUSTRAL ISLANDS The new DXCC rule requiring 350km (instead of 225 miles) open water between two islands may not only bring us Temotu as a new country but also the Marquesas and Austral Islands. Kan Mizoguchi, JA1BK, was already QRV as FO0MIZ from the Marquesas (OC-027). During the next few days he plans to activate the Austral Islands using the same call for about four days of activity. Afterwards he intends to operate also from Papeete, Moorea and other Polynesian islands. QSL via VE3HO. See also: http://www.iijnet.or.jp/JA1BK/ - Bob, W6RJ, and his son, W6KR, plan to be QRV in CW/SSB on 10-160m signing FO0FI and FO0FR from Rurutu/Austral Islands (OC-050) from April 13-20. From April 21-28 they intend to activate the Marquesas (OC-027) signing FO0FR. QSL via K6SLO (ex WA6SLO).

H44 - SOLOMON ISLANDS Aki, H44XX, was active from Honiara after returning from Temotu. QSL direct via his homecall JA5DQH.

VK9L - LORD HOWE ISLAND Paul, N0AH, will be QRV as VK9LZ from OC-004 using a FT900 and a R7000 vertical on 10-40m (including the WARC bands but no RTTY) from April 25-30. QSL via N0AH.

YJ - VANUATU Frank, YJ8AA, has not been QRV since the riots started in Vanuatu. Since amateur radio is the only connection to his manager VK4AAR Alan can answer QSLs only if he has contact with Frank again.

AFRICA

3Y - BOUVET ISLAND Last year the South Sandwich Island DX Group declined to activate Heard Island in favour of another group. Since the Norwegians are doing some construction work on the island the DXpedition to this new destination of the SSIDXG had to be postponed till the Antarctic summer 1998/99.

FT5Z - AMSTERDAM ISLAND After activating FT5X Rene, FR5HR, plans to operate from Amsterdam Island (AF-002) from April 17-27. If possible QSL via bureau to F5RRH or via Rene Allegre, 56 Rue Leconte de Lisle, F-97411 Bois de Nefle, France.

AMERICA

8P - BARBADOS Baerbel, DL7UTO, and Bernd, DJ1TO, will be QRV again as 8P9IU and 8P9IR mostly in CW on 10-80m between April 22 and May 5.

CE - CHILE Paul, CE3/F6EXV, has now a fixed 3 ele yagi beaming towards Europe.

FG - GUADELOUPE Alain, FG/F2HE, is QRV in CW and SSB until the end of July. He plans to activate also Les Saintes (NA-114) from May 4-30. QSL via F6LQJ

HK0 - MALPELO ISLAND Siso, HK3SGP, states that the surprising activity of HK3JJH/0 was only a small operation prior to a large scale DXpedition scheduled for 1999/2000. Their plans include several stations, SAT/RTTY/WARC operation and an internet log search.

VE - CANADA On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Fredericton/NBR some stations are using the prefix CF9 until April 26.

ASIA

VQ9 - CHAGOS ARCHIPELAGO Jim, NS1L, is momentarily active as VQ9ZZ. His length of stay is not sure yet. QSL via homecall. - Chuck, VQ9KK, active from Diego Garcia is QRV mostly on 10m or 15m SSB. His length of stay is not sure, too. QSL via homecall KB0QKK.

EUROPE

EA8 - CANARY ISLANDS Manfred, EA8/DK7ZH, is QRV from Puerto De La Cruz between April 22 and May 13. QSL via bureau to DK7ZH.

JW - SVALBARD Rag, OZ8RO, had to postpone his activity as JW5HE (DXNL 1088) for one week.

TK - CORSICA F6AXX, F6IIE and F5MNW are on the air in CW signing TK/F8UFT from April 11-18. QSL via F6AXX.
