5X, UGANDA (Update). Steve, DJ1US, reports he has finally received his 5X license that he applied for on July 27th. Look for him to be active as 5X1S. Steve states to please be patient with the QSLs - they are not printed yet. QSL to DF2RG via the bureau or direct to: Gerhard Jaeger, Ruhseugstr. 6, 92421 Schwandorf, Germany. ADDED NOTE: For those of you who would like a Uganda stamp, Steve's Ugandian address is: Stefan M. Bauer, TSU, c/o UN WFP, P.O. Box 7159, Kampala, Uganda (but don't expect an answer until late October or so!).

A5, BHUTAN. The "DX News Sheet" reports that well known DXer Jim, VK9NS, is having a visa application being processed, and he will be meeting the Bhutanwese Ambassador to Bangladesh in Dhaka. For those who do not know, Jim was previously active from Bhutan in 1990 as A51JS. KYFC!!!! ADDED NOTE: Jim has renewed his S21ZA licence and may be active from Dhaka after his visit to the UK while attending the RSGB HF Convention.

C5, THE GAMBIA (Update). It been reported that Mako, JA1OEM, had to postpone his September 25th, C56/JA1OEM operation as he was unable to obtain a visa.

FO0, MOOREA ISLAND (Update). Giancarlo, T77WI, has received the callsign FO0MOT to activate this Polynesian island (OC-046). Activity will last until October 12th. Refer to OPDX.323 for more details.

GB0, LUNDY ISLAND. The Taunton and District Amateur Radio Club (TADARC) will be activating the special callsign GB0LI on Lundy Island (EU-120) from September 30th to October 6th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters with operations on CW and SSB. They plan to use IC-725 and IC-735 with 100 watts to R7000, wire dipoles and Long Wire. Operators will be G3WNI and G0PSE. QSL to G3WNI or G0PSE via bureau, or to the following addresses:

JY, JORDAN. "The Daily DX" reported that King Hussein, JY1, made a very rare visit to the bands this past week. His Royal Highness showed up on 14280 kHz at 2100z. QSL via WA3HUP.

KH4, MIDWAY ISLAND. By the time you read this, the Midway-Kure Dx Foundation team should be active from Kure as K7K, but there are also plans for a very brief operation from Midway Atoll just after the team returns from Kure. Their tentative plans are for the team to operate on Midway from October 5th and 6th only. The special callsign for the Midway operation will be K4M (Kilo 4 Mike). QSL via KE7LZ.

QSL INFO AND NEWS.....

S9, SAO TOME & PRINCIPE. Francisco, CT1EAT, reports to OPDX that he will be in S9 from October 21st until November 4th. His planned operations will begin from Sao Tome Island (AF-023) from October 22-30th, using the callsign S92FC. Activity will be on 80-10 meter including the WARC bands with operations on SSB, RTTY and RS12 satellite (Mode K). Francisco has requested the special call S97A to operate during CQWW DX SSB Contest only. He plans to be a Single/Op/Multi Band LP entry. Outside of the contest he will concentrate on RTTY. This will be his first time on this mode, so PLEASE be nice. Francisco reports that the RS12 satellite is currently in mode A (as of Sept. 28th). So, if it doesn't return to Mode K, no operation will be possible. From October 31st to November 4th, Francisco will go to Principe Island (AF-044) and use the callsign S91FC. Operations will be SSB only with activity on 20-10 meters including the WARC bands. His equipment will be a FT890 (100w), R5 and dipole. QSL all callsigns (S91FC, S92FC and S97A) via the CT Bureau (REP) or direct to: Francisco Costa, P.O.Box 172, 7800 Beja, Portugal. SPECIAL NOTE (from Francisco): "If I 'disappear' during a QSO, it will be almost sure due to lack of energy. Energy failure happens several times a day... Also, this isn't a Dxpedition. I'm going on holiday and I'll take my radio with me. I'll only be on the radio a few hours a day..."

THE 1997 MAGNOLIA DX ASSOCIATION'S DX FORUM AND BREAKFAST will be held in conjunction with the MS.. Coast Amateur Radio Assoc. Hamfest. The dates for this year's DX activities will be on Saturday, October 11th, in Biloxi, MS. The DX breakfast will be at the Lady Luck Casino, located on Casino Row, at 7:30 AM. The speaker will be Bill Musa, K5YG, with details about his trip to VP5 land. TF, ICELAND. Preben, OZ5AAH, will be active here October 26th through November 10th as TF/OZ5IPA. The callsign OZ5IPA is the club callsign of the IPARC (International Police Association). Preben is the chairman of the association. Priority of operations will be CW, WARC and low bands. QSL via home call.

TR, GABON. "The 59(9) DXReport" states Jean, TR8XX, is regularly active on 40 meters at 0600z, then QSYs to 30 and 20 meters.

YM3, TURKEY (Special Event). Look for "YM3SV" to be active starting 0000z Saturday, October 25th and ending 2400z Friday, October 31st. This station is commemorating the "Friendship, Neutrality, Reconciliation and Arbitration Agreement" between Turkish and Greek Rebuplics. This agreement was signed by Turkish President Mustafa Kemal ATATURK and Greek Prime Minister, Eleutherios (Kiryakos) VENIZELOS on October 30, 1930, in Ankara. In accordance with the authorization from the Izmir Directorate Radiocommuniciation, TA3YJ, TA3J and possibly others will be active from the TA3YJ amateur radio station with the special callsign YM3SV in low power. Activity will be Phone only on 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 2 meters and 70cm. QSL via TA3YJ, Nilay Mine Aydogmus, Box 876, 35214 Izmir, Turkey

ZS9, SOUTH AFRICA. Be looking for ZS6Y to activate the callsign ZS9F during the CQWW SSB Contest at the end of October. Activity will be on all bands. QSL to KK3S via the bureau or CBA.
