4W, EAST TIMOR. Plans for an early October 2000 East Timor operation concentrating on the lower HF bands are underway by Dennis, K7BV. Made, YB9BV, and a well known USA Low Band operator (identity will be announced soon) will join Dennis in this effort to make 4W available on 40, 80 and 160 meters for over a week. 9A, CROATIA ISLANDS (IOCA activity). Be looking for new activity from Croatian islands starting this week. Operators Frane/9A5V, Fredi/9A5KV, Matko/9A3VM and perhaps Tom/9A2AA will activate the following islands between June 22nd and 25th: Misjak (CI-066, JN74OH), Pag (CI-082, JN74MK), Veliki i Mali Sikavac (CI-136, JN74OH), Vir (CI-141, JN74NH) and Zecevo (CI-147, JN74OH). All islands are also valid for IOTA, EU-136. They will be active on all bands and modes. QSL via home call.

ADDED NOTE: Denis, 9A3ZG, reports that IOCA Directories will be available at the Croatian stand at the "25th HAM RADIO" convention in Friedrichshafen, Germany (June 22-24th). The cost of "Directory for The Islands of Croatia Award" is 10 USD or equivalent in DEM (20 DEM), and that covers the cost for the Basic Certificate. That means you don't have to pay for the Basic certificate when you have the Directory with your own number on it. In the Directory you will find both the full rules and the list of all islands for the award with their coordinates.

AFRICAN TRIP. Maurice, ON4BAM, will be touring South Africa next month between July 21st and August 13th with his family. During the trip he will be active from the rental car with a "TS-50S" and "Outbacker Perth" antenna (and if possible dipole/wire). He will also make a short stop in Swaziland on July 26th and 27th. The callsigns are ZS/ON4BAM for South Africa and 3DA0MA for Swaziland. The 3DA license is confirmed but not yet in hand, and his ZS license is a CEPT. Activity will be on the follow- ing bands in that order depending on propagation: 15, 12, 17, 10, 20 meters. QSL to ON4BAM bureau (UBA only!!) or direct.

DXCC NEWS. John Kanode, N4MM, reported this week that "On June 1, the 15 meter record column on your DXCC record was opened up and should appear on all records sent out from that date on. Some of you may already have records with the 15 meter info on them. On July 1, the Single band 15 meter award will be available. There is no rush to apply due to the fact that the 15 meter single band DXCC will be like the 20 meter one, they will not be numbered. The 15 meter single band DXCC totals will not be included in the De Soto Cup award this year. The De Soto Cup for this year will be the 160, 80, 40, 20, 10 and 6 meter totals. Hopefully 17 and 12 meters will be added somethime in 2001. It depends on the backlog at HQ. The ARRL staff checked 14,800 cards at Dayton. The new DXCC list is in production and should be available in late August or early September." ADDED NOTE: OPDX InterNet Subscriber will receive a copy of the actual press release by the League as an additional bulletin.

C9, MOZAMBIQUE. Martin, LW9EUJ, will be traveling to South Africa on business in December, and he wants to activate C9 for a week or so which will included the ARRL 10 meter Contest. However, Martin would like to know who the authority is that issues ham radio licenses so he can get the appropiate authorization to operate from Mozambique. DL/HB9/HB0, GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND LIECHTENSTEIN. Chris, OE8CIQ, will be on a holiday trip to southern Germany and will operate as DL/OE8CIQ/p and HB9/OE8CIQ/p between June 17th and 26th. He will be active for a few hours as HB0/OE8CIQ/p from Liechtenstein on Sunday, June 18th and Sunday, June 25th. Chris will use an Alinco DX-70 (about 100 Watts) and a multi- band vertical antenna. IOTA NEWS...................

• AF-054. Remember to look for Bert, PA3GIO, as 5H3/PA3GIO on Mafia Island now through June 24th. QSL via the bureau to PA3GIO.
• AF-063. After his operation from AF-054, look for Bert, PA3GIO, as 5H1/PA3GIO from Pemba Island where he will be active until the beginning of July. QSL via bureau to PA3GIO.
• AS-023. Jun/JI3EQW, Kaoru/JA3MCA and Aru/JA0KNM are going to be active from Taketomijima, Yaeyama Island, from 1200z, on June 23rd through 2300z, June 25th. They will be signing homecall/JR6 and operate on 20-6 meters, SSB/CW. QSL all via their home callsign.
• AS-023. Zen, JA7DLE, will be active as JP6JKK and JA7YCE/6 from Amami Island now through June 24th. Activity will be on 80/40/20/15/10 meters. He was also active during the past weekend's "All Asia CW Contest". QSL via the JARL Bureau (BUREAU is BEST) or direct to the following callsign's address:

• AS-056. Masa, JA6GXK, will be active from Danjo Archipelago (Meshima Island), during the following dates: June 30th-July 11th, August 22nd-September 1st, September 12-22nd and October 13-24th. This will not be a DXpedition, and he will operate during his spare time. Suggested frequensies are: 14260+/-10kHz, or 21260+/-10kHz. QSL via only the Bureau.
• EU-008. Dr. Jorge Fernandez Devesa, EC1BXI, informs OPDX that he will provide medical service to the residents of Ons Island (IDEA EA1-1-3) and operate as EF1ONS (QRP) during July 1-30th. He is not sure if he will be on the air daily; that depends on his patients. However, he does report to look for him on 21200 kHz (QRP) with his old Yaesu FT-7 at 1400 or 2000z. He will also operate on 10/15/40/80 meters, however his callsign/license is not full band permitted. He is only allowed to be active on the following range of frequencies:
  • CW/SSB - 28900-29100, 21150-21200 and 3600-3700 kHz
  • CW - 28100-28150, 21100-21150, 7020-7030 and 3550-3600 kHz
  Other operators at ED1ONS may be active on other bands and frequencies with full license privileges on HF/VHF/UHF. These operators will operate with 100 watts mostly. In August, Jorge will move to the Cies Islands. He will be on the island called Monteagudo (or also called North Cies). He will operate again from this island and also provide medical service. This will be his second operation from Cies. (Last was in August 1999 as ED1OTA). He will use the same callsign ED1OTA, and possibly also EF1OTA and run QRP, but remember his band restrictions. Possibly his operations may be solar powered during some moments.... because electric power is not guaranteed for 24 hours. If possible, he will try later in August to operate from the Isla Sur Cies, or San Martin (Southern Cies Island). These islands have never been on the air before, and they also count as EU-080 and IDEA EA1-1-2 (New one for IDEA award). QSL via Jorge Fernandez Devesa, P.O.Box 54, 36980O Grove, (Pontevedra) SPAIN,EUROPE for both operations. Also, he is a member of the EA-QRP CLUB, so the QRP operators can send QSL via their QRP Clubs. This is the only bureau he belongs to.
• EU-062. Hans, SM3TLG, will be active as LA/SM3TLG from Helligvaer Islands now through June 20th. Activity will be CW/SSB. QSL to homecall direct or via the bureau.
• EU-076. There is a possibility that Hans, SM3TLG, will be active as LA/SM3TLG from Lofoten Islands June 21-23rd (after his EU-062 operation). QSL to homecall direct or via the bureau.
• EU-157. Gaby/F5PSI and Laurent/F5PSG will be active from Cezembre Island from July 14 to 15th.

KH5, PALMYRA ATOLL. From the latest Kingman/Palmyra DX Group (KPDXG) announcement, Mike Gibson, KH6ND, is active on Palmyra Atoll as KH6ND/KH5, replacing Dave Johnson, WB4JTT, who has returned to Hawaii. Mike, like their previous visitors, has been assisting "The Nature Conservancy" while refining the ham station. Mike will be active until approximately June 21st, mostly on CW, and will be looking for Europe. He was spotted this past weekend on 40/20 meters CW between 0930 and 1330z. QSL to K4TSJ.

KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Aki/JH3EQP and Tai/JE3EJC, members of the Osaka DXpedition Lovers Group (ODXLG), will be active from Saipan Island, Northern Mariana (IOTA OC-086), between July 20-22nd (activity will finish at around midnight UST on 22th). During their activity, they will be looking for NA, SA, EU, AF, OC, West and South Asian stations. They will operate on the modes SSB, CW, SSTV and PSK31. Look for them on 80-6 meters. QSL via the bureau or direct.

KH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. By the time you read this, members of the Northern Kyushu DX Club (NKDXC) should be active from here until June 20th. Look for KH0/AF4IN and KH0N to be active on CW 5 or 025 kHz from the lower band edges and as well on 160 and 6 meters. QSL KH0/AF4IN via JA6AGA direct and KH0N via JA6CNL direct or both to NKDXC, Box 11, Yawata, 805-8691 Japan.

OD, LEBANON. Jean Paul, F6FYA, will take down the 40m antenna for OD5/F5SQM, and he will install a long wire for 80 and 160 meters. He and his wife will be there for the next 3 months.

PJ7, SINT MAARTEN. Look for Andy, WA6WXD, to be active as PJ7/WA6WXD from June 17-24th. Activity will be on 20/17/15/10 meters SSB with a FT-100 and dipole antenna. QSL via WA6WXD.

QSL INFO AND NEWS.............

• A52A QSLs will be available at the "25th HAM RADIO" convention in Friedrichshafen, Germany (June 22-24th). Cards can be picked up for you ONLY and only if you have a filled out QSL of your own QSO. Meanwhile, John, K0YR, was told by Glenn, W0GJ, that "We now have over 14,000 cards OUT, three weeks after QRT! We are caught up with QSL's.....at this moment, but a couple hundred are arriving daily."
• TX0DX Chesterfield Reefs' QSLs will also be available at the "25th HAM RADIO" convention in Friedrichshafen, Germany (June 22-24th). Miika, OH2BAD, assistant QSL Manager for TX0DX, will be releasing European QSL cards at the Finnish Amateur League (SRAL) booth, Halle 9, booth number 923. You are most welcome to collect YOUR PERSONAL QSL cards and say hello to the gang from Finland. Miika will be available from Thursday through Sunday, and you will find him during the exhibition hours. A TX0DX presentation will be given at the DX gathering on Saturday evening by Wayne A. Mills, N7NG, one of the TX0DX operators and ARRL Membership Services Manager (which includes the DXCC branch).
• Ken Holdom, ZL2HU (Group Organizer/Team Leader/QSL Manager/Kermadec DX Association) wants to remind everyone that there is a new QSL Route for the Kermadec DX Association DXpeditions to ZL8 in May 1996 and ZL9 in January 1999. They are still getting numerous cards to their old address despite their efforts to advise otherwise. Their new address is: Kermadec DX Association, c/o Ken Holdom, ZL2HU/ZL4HU, P.O. Box 7, CLYDE, Central Otago, New Zealand. This is now the only address that should be used for their two DXpeditions.

SPECIAL EVENT. The Old Barney ARC shall be celebrating "National Lighthouse Day Weekend" by operating N2OB from "OLD BARNEY", the Barnegat Lighthouse, Long Beach Island, NJ (IOTA NA-111, USI NJ-001S), on August 5th and 6th, from 1300-2300z each day. Suggested frequencies to watch are: 7265, 14265, 21365, 28465, 146.835 MHz (600/PL-3A) and 146.52 MHz (spx). QSL via N2OB, PO Box 345, Tuckerton, NJ 08087 USA. Send a 9"x12" SASE with appropriate postage if you want a certificate with your QSL.

SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event stations EO225E, EO225EA, EO225EJ, and EO225EL to be active on all bands until August 27th to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the city "Krivoy Rog". If you make contacts with these stations (3 QSOs, dupes are valid on different bands or modes), you will receive the "Krivbass Award" (for 5 USD or IRCs). QSLs for all stations are via UT1EJ (Yuri Arkhipov, P.O. Box 101, Krivoy Rog, 50071 Ukraine).

ST0, SUDAN. Wayne, K8FF, has recently talked to Geoff, 5B4YY, who has recently received his license to operate from Khartoum, Sudan as ST0P (read ST zero P) and provides the following information. Geoff has been on 20 meters in the evenings (U.S. time) with a good signal. He is using a IC746 and a G5RV and expects to have a QUAD loop on the air soon. It had been deleted from the DXCC list a few years ago.

SV9, CRETE. Dennis, K7BV, will arrive on Crete and begin operations the afternoon (local time) of June 29th as SV9/K7BV. This is a side trip for Dennis who will depart July 3rd for the World Radiosport Team Championship 2000 in Slovenia where he will take part with his teammate Ralph, K9ZO. Manos, SV9ANJ, has graciously helped with accommodations and a Windom antenna that will be put to use with a barefoot FT1000MP on all HF bands CW and SSB. QSL via Steve, KU9C. T31, KANTON ISLAND. Steve, G4EDG, informs OPDX that he has dispatched an electronic keyer to Ueata, T31T, a Kanton Island resident and qualified professional radio op. The transport to the island is slow and may take upto 4 months to reach him. He just has a twin paddle at the moment, but no keyer! So CW operation is a little difficult, and Steve hopes this will improve matters.

UARL ANNOUNCEMENT. The Ukrainian Amateur Radio Leaque (UARL) reports that Ukrainian National Team will use the callsign EM0HQ during the HF Word Championship 2000. The UARL has established an award "UKRAINE-2000" which will be given only for a contacts with EM0HQ during the IARU Contest. They will send this award via the QSL Bureau free of charge. QSL via UX2MM. The requirements to get the award are as follows:

• For DX- one should contact on 2 or more bands
• For EU- one should contact on 4 or more bands

You don't have to have an award application, all you need is to LOG EM0HQ.

V6, MICRONESIA. "The DX New Letter" reports that Ted, K8AQM (V63KR), Brian, KG8CO (V63KP), and Dave, K8AA (V63KQ), will be active from June 28th through July 12th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters and an entry as V63X during the IARU HF World Championship.

XV, VIETNAM. The ham radio district numbers in Vietnam have recently been changed. Ho Chi Minh City is now "District 2", for example, and Hanoi is "District 9". Rolf, XV7SW, and Torsten, XV7TH, who have just renewed their licenses, were just informed on June 13th that they are XV9SW and XV9TH from now on. Rolf reported that no map of the new districts was available at the Vietnamese PTT, which also reported that the district figure No. 1 is not in use at present. Meanwhile, Rolf was spotted this past weekend on 15 meters CW between 1800 and 2200z. Also check around 1100z.

YL, LATVIA. "The 59(9) DX Report" reports that Eric, SM1TDE, will sign YL/SM1TDE from July 17-22nd. Activity will be on 160-2 meters, concentrating on the WARC bands and CW. QSL via SM1TDE, preferably via the SM bureau.
