4U, UNITED NATIONS HQ. Frank/W2IX and Ray/W2RE gave many a real treat and surprise to work 4U1UN on Sunday morning, June 22nd. They were operating SSB and CW. Activity was on 20/17/6 meters as this bulletin was being typed.
7Q7/10JUNE, MALAWI (Good or Not!). It seems this one caused some confusion over a week ago. First reports indicated that this was a PIRATE station. However, this is NOT the case. According to Leo, CT1CSN, activity was by Vasco, 7Q7CT, who has a Malawian official document granting the use of the callsign, 7Q7/10JUNE, to be used as a special event. June 10th was Portugal's Day and is commemorated by the various Portuguese communities around the world. So those who worked Vasco with the callsign 7Q7/10JUNE made a legitimate contact. QSL Manager is ZS6AMX.
9A, CROATIA. THIS IS JUST A REMINDER! Operators Kresimir/9A7K, Phil/F5OGG and Branko/9A6BND will activate several islands and lighthouses over the next week until June 30th. Activity began over the past weekend. Watch around 14260 kHz. Remember to QSL via operator's home callsign, except Phil/F5OGG (QSL via LX1NO). LAST MINUTE UPDATE: Look for the 9A0LH team to be active from Palagruza (EU-090 and WLH-0057) early Monday morning, June 23rd.
CT3, MADEIRA ISLANDS. Francisco, CT1EAT, informs OPDX that he will be active as CT3/CT1EAT on a DX holiday, from Porto Santo Island (AF-014) starting on the July 24th, ending on the 30th. The radio operation will take place mainly on the AO-40 satellite, but also on HF (from 20-10m), on SSB and RTTY modes. He will be an entry in the IOTA Contest as CT9T as a Single Operator/Low Power, SSB only. QSL via CT bureau, or direct to his home callsign via CBA address: P.O. Box 172, 7801-902 Beja, Portugal. For more information, please visit his home page at: http://www.qsl.net/ct1eat/
FH, MAYOTTE. Martial, F5SIE, will be active as FH/F5SIE, from Mayotte Island (IOTA AF-027 and DIFO FH001) between July 1-15th. This will be a CW only operation with activity on 40/17/15 meters with a TS-50 and wire antennas. QSL (PLEASE) via the French REF bureau.
HP, PANAMA (Special Event). Members of the Panama Radio Club invite all amateur radio stations in the world to make a contact with special event station HP100RCP to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Panama. Activity will take place November 1-3rd on all bands on modes CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31. A special commemorate QSL can be obtained by sending your QSL plus 2 IRC or one USD to: Radio Club de Panama, P.O. Box 10745, Panama 4, Panama. You can view the special event station at HP100RCP and the QSL card on PRC's Web sites at: http://www.radioclubdepanama.org http://www.qsl.net/hp1rcp/
IOTA CONTEST (Attention Island-hopper and Island-chaser!). Ric, DL2VFR, informs OPDX that already 42 stations have announced their participation in the 2003 IOTA Contest and have been listed now on the following Web page at: http://www.iota-post.com Ric states, "This is useful if you are looking for a QTH or if you are looking to see who will be QRV ?" Everybody is invited to send his/her island QTH report to: info@iota-post.com In the last years he has had more than 130 reports. Deadline for reports are the 24th of July. SPECIAL EVENT. French operators will activate the special callsign TM5AR to participate in the celebration of the "'L' Armada Rouen 2003". Activity will be on 80-2 meters. For the 4th time since 1989, a large group of sail boats (fleet) will gather/head to Rouen, Normandy, France. More than 30 great barques, two/three/or four masted schooners, bricks, ketches and other sea clippers from all over the whole world will stay and parade on the River Seine from June 28th to July 6th. The last Armada was in 1999, where more than 10 millions people enjoyed the visit from the ships. More are expected this year. QSL via instructions for direct cards or via the French REF Bureau.
SV5, DODECANESE. Bert, PA1KW, informs OPDX that he will be active during the IOTA Contest in July from Kos Island (EU-001) as SV5/PA1KW. He also mentions that he will be active before and after the contest. QSL via his home callsign, bureau or direct (SASE).
T2, TUVALU. Mike/T21MY and Jan/T2YL continue to be active until about June 26th. Mike was heard this past week on 80/30/15/12/10 meters CW at various times. Jan was heard on 20/17/15 meters SSB. QSL Manager George, OM2SA, reports that he has received the first set of logs about two weeks ago and the first batch of direct QSLs (500) are in the mail. He is working on them everyday and requests everyone to please be patient.
T5, SOMALIA. Baldur, DJ6SI, has once again surprised everyone and showed up as T5X on June 16th. The length of his stay is not known. He has been very active on 17 meters CW as well as 80/40/30/20/15 meters. QSL via DJ6SI.
V31, BELIZE. Wayne/N5WD and his wife Pamela/KB5UAE are planning to be active as V31WD and V31UA, respectively, from Placencia (EK56), July 15-21st. Wayne will be concentrating on 6 meters during the CQWW VHF Contest weekend. However, he will be on 80-6 meters at other times during the week and can do PSK31/SSB/CW. He tells OPDX, "Maybe next trip we'll add WSJT". QSLs to N5WD, callbook address or via the W5 bureau.
VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. Mike Foster is now operating as VP2V/7Q7FM until he gets his own British Virgin callsign. His activity is mostly on 20 meters until he gets his antennas sorted out. Watch around 14200 kHz. QSL "ONLY DIRECT" via Allen, G0IAS. Allen states, "PLEASE add a bit to the return postage....sorry, my pockets are only so deep...and NO return postage no card."
VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Gary/K4UU and Bud/K4ISV are now active from North Caicos until June 25th. Their callsign are homecalls/VP5. No QSL details were provided for Bud's activity.
VP8, SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS. Look for LZ2UU to be active as VP8/LZ2UU during the CQ World Wide DX CW Contest (November 29-30th) as a Single-Op/ All Band/Low Power entry. Activity will be from LZ0A, the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island, South Shetland. QSL via LZ2UU.
YI, IRAQ. Steve, OM3JW, reports that his son Mike, OM2DX, will be going back to Baghdad on June 25th. Mike's activity will be limited to a few weeks because Slovak Ambassy in Baghdad was totally destroyed. His power amplifier was lost and antenna systems (log-periodic yagi for 20-10m, vertical HF6 and wire dipoles on low bands) were destroyed. Mike expects to operate as YI1BGD from the club station. However, he believe that he will receive his personal callsign very soon. He will also look for YI1BGD documents (licence that was issue in 1978) and will send his copy to ARRL. The reason for this is that some people are now having their YI1BGD QSLs rejected for DXCC (Mike's activity). For more info and updates, go to the following Web page at: http://www.qsl.net/om2dx/
