The ACIA Group issues two awards: All Croatian Islands Award (Basic) and All Croatian Islands Award (Diamond). Awards above are available as Trophies, Diplomas, Certificates and Medals. HS0ZDZ/G3NOM AND HS0AC/HS72B CLUB STATION UPDATE. Robin, WA6CDR, informed OPDX with good and bad news. First the good. The HS72B CQWW CW and Special Operations team (DL3DXX, DL5LYM, G4ODV, G4UZN, WA6CDR, HS1CKC, HS0ZDX and HS0ZDZ) have received a very generous donation, and they will use it as matching funds toward a new, well equipped FT1000MarkV, shipping & customs costs for several FT980s they received with another generous donation, and repair/re-tube of their amplifiers, including a newly donated FL2100. They need your help to complete this project and bring the RAST club station online as a permanent full performance station. The team members are putting up their own money to make this happen; they need your help to finish the job properly. Now for the bad news. This project, however, was put on hold last week when station leader, Ray, HS0ZDZ/G3NOM, suffered a heart attack and is still hospitalized. The project has gotten everything back on track through major efforts of HS1CKC and HS0ZDX, but they still need your help. However, the news about Ray, HS0ZDZ/G3NOM, is not good, according to HS0ZDX. Anyone who would like to send their wishes for Ray's recovery may send them to: dx@thai.com HS0ZDX will print out the messages and pass them on to his wife, daughter and son-in-law in Bangkok. OPDX and its readers would like to send out our best wishes and prayers for Ray's speedy recovery.

Mario is expected to remain in Antarctica until around mid-February. He could also operate from Dome C and probably from other remote camps in the future if time and equipment permit. IOTA NEWS......................

KC4, ANTARCTICA. Chris, KC4/N3SIG, reports that he "finally hooked up the ICOM 706 to the Amp in the ham shack, the antennas are all fixed and it's time to DX!" KP1 & KP5, NAVASSA AND DESECHEO ISLAND. "The Lone Star DX Association (LSDXA) has joined the effort to get Navassa (KP1) and Desecheo (KP5) islands back on the air! As the primary DX organization associated with this effort, the LSDXA will assist in many important ways to achieve our common goal by encouraging Amateur radio operators to contact their Congressmen to support new legislation to re-open these islands, and help raise needed funds for court review of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) ban of Amateur Radio on these islands. Action continues to be pursued aggressively on multiple fronts. The inital grass roots effort conducted by the DX and Contest community during the summer of 2004 has resulted in legislation being drafted to force the FWS to allow access to KP1 & KP5. As a result your help is immediately needed! Congressman Nick Rahall (D-WV) has introduced HR5361 in the House of Representatives. Congressman Richard Pombo (D-CA) has also signed on, making this a bipartisan effort. It is critical that each and every DXer and interested Contester contact their U.S. Representative now to tell them that this legislation is important to you. Ask them to contact Rep. Rahall's office (202-225-3452; fax 202- 225-9061) and offer to sign-on to this pending legislation. With your support, this legislation will be successful and move onto the Senate and ultimately the President to be signed into law." The above is just part of a very long press release by the LSDXA. It is important for interested DXers and Contesters to read the whole press release. It can be downloaded as a PDF file at: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/michael.l.thomas@sbcglobal.net (Click on "Island Project" and download "News ReleaseR8"). As the host organization for the project, the LSDXA has donated 500 USD to a fund it will administer to help pay for the costs of moving the effort forward in Congress and in court. If you or your organization would like to help, please send your donation to the Lone Star DX Association, c/o Jim Bass, K5KQI, 2709 Monarch Dr., Arlington, TX 76006. Mark your donation for the "Navassa-Desecheo Project." Your help, in whatever amount, will be greatly appreciated! LSDXA has been granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. News updates, additional information and resources can be found at: http://www.dxer.org

73s D.Bharathi Prasad, VU2RBI
Chief Co-ordinator, NIAR
Team Leader, Andaman Dxpedition - 2004

Word has it that she and her team have permission to operate between December 3-31st. Earlier in the week (while Bharathi was waiting for the official permission to be granted), Bharathi sent out a press release stating she was extremely grateful to the DX Community for the encouragement by their letters and E-mails. She states, "It is your opinions/suggestions/ recommendations made to Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, Honorable Minister of Communications and others made it possible for me and the National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR is a national organisation for Amateur Radio in India is fully supporting me) to achieve very good results."

Please remember that funds are still needed for this operation. Donations/ funds should be directed to:

  National Institute of Amateur Radio
  Raj Bhavan Road
  Hyderabad 500 082
  India

Funds can also be sent to the Charles, K4VUD. Charles states, "Any and all donations that come to me will be completely used to assist this DXpedition via the National Institute of Amateur Radio in India, the umbrella sponsoring agency who, BTW, is allowed to receive foreign funds." K4VUD mail address is: Charles Harpole, 3100 N. Hwy. 426, Geneva, FL 32732 USA. Charles also states/recommands the following words to the DX community: "This is truly an exciting moment for ham radio DXing, activating an entity silent for about 17 years. Please be on your best on-air behavior when calling. We want to show ham radio to the India government and the world regulatory bodies that we are a disciplined and worth while activity, fully deserving of precious spectrum space. There are no firm answers yet as to what bands/modes nor what rigs/antennas. This DXpedition is not a mass group of crack operators arriving with tons of gear. However, there is some possibility of a continuing re-newal of permits to VU4 by many India hams, thus, we have the hope of more contact opportunities in the future. Warm up the rigs ... here we go !" 73, Charles Harpole
